ஆயினும் எவர் புறக்கணித்து நிராகரிக்கின்றாரோ –

Save the one who turns away and disbelieves.¹

அவரை அல்லாஹ் மிகப் பெரும் வேதனையாக வேதனை செய்வான்.

Then Allâh will punish him with the greatest punishment.

நிச்சயமாக அவர்களின் மீட்சி நம் பக்கமேயாகும்.

Verily, to Us will be their return;

பின்னர், நிச்சயமாக அவர்களைக் கேள்வி கணக்கு கேட்பது நம்மீதேயாகும்.

Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning.

விடியற்காலையின் மீது சத்தியமாக!

By the dawn;

பத்து இரவுகளின்மீதும் சத்தியமாக!

By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah)¹,

   Narrated Ibn ‘Abbâs رضي الله عنهما: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "No good deeds done on other days are superior to those done on these (first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah)." Then some Companions of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Not even Jihâd ?" He replied, "Not even Jihâd, except that of a man who does it by putting himself and his property in danger (for Allâh’s sake) and does not return with any of those things." (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol.2, Hadith No.86).

இரட்டையின் மீதும் ஒற்றையின் மீதும் சத்தியமாக!

And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allâh).¹

1. "Even" and "Odd" is interpreted differently by different religious scholars. Some say: Even is the Day of Slaughtering of the Sacrifices, i.e. 10th of Dhul-Hijjah, and Odd is the Day of ‘Arafah (Hajj ), i.e. 9th of Dhul-Hijjah. Others say: Even is all the creatures and Odd is Allâh. Some say it is the compulsory congregational prayer, i.e. Maghrib is Witr , and the other four prayers are Shaf‘

இரவின் மீதும் அது சென்று விடும்போது – சத்தியமாக!

And by the night when it departs.

இதில் அறிவுடையோருக்கு (உறுதியளிக்கக்கூடிய) சத்தியம் இருக்கின்றதல்லவா?

There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs)!

உமதிரட்சகன் ஆ(து கூட்டத்)தை எவ்வாறு செய்தான் என்பதை நீர் காணவில்லையா?

Saw you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) not how your Lord dealt with ‘Âd (people)

பெரும்பலசாலிகளான (தூண்களையுடைய) இரமை (அவரின் பிள்ளைகளை) –

Of Iram (who were very tall) like (lofty) pillars,

அக்கூட்டத்தினர் எத்தகையோரென்றால் - (உலகத்திலுள்ள) நகரங்களில் (அக்கூட்டத்தினரைப்போன்று) பலசாலிகள் எவரும் படைக்கப்படவில்லை.

The like of which were not created in the land?

இன்னும், பள்ளத்தாக்கில் பாறையைக் குடைந்து அதில் வசித்து வந்தவர்களான ஸமூது கூட்டத்தையும் -

And (with) Thamûd (people), who hewed out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? ¹

1. "And you hew out in the mountains, houses with great skill." [The Qur’ân, Verse 26:149].

இன்னும், முளைகளுடைய – (பெரும்படைகளையுடைய) ஃபிர் அவ்னையும் (உமதிரட்சகன் எவ்வாறு செய்தான் என்பதை நீர் காணவில்லையா?)

And (with) Fir‘aun (Pharaoh) who had the stakes (to torture men by binding them to the stakes)?

அவர்கள் எத்தகையோரென்றால், நகரங்களில் அவர்கள் வரம்பு மீறி நடந்தார்கள்.

Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allâh).

பின்னர், அவைகளில் அவர்கள் குழப்பத்தை அதிகப்படுத்தினார்கள்.

And made therein much mischief.

எனவே, உமதிரட்சகன் அவர்கள் மீது வேதனையின் சாட்டையைப் போட்டான்.

So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment.

நிச்சயமாக, உமதிரட்சகன் (அடியார்களின் ஒவ்வொரு செயலையும்) கண்காணித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றான்.

Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them).

ஆகவே, மனிதன், அவனுடைய இரட்சகன் அவனை சோதித்து பின்னர் அவனைக் கண்ணியப்படுத்தி, அவனுக்கு அருட்கொடைகளையும் அளித்தால் “என்னை என்னுடைய இரட்சகன் கண்ணியப்படுத்தினான்” என்று கூறுகிறான்.

As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and bounties, then he says (in exultation): "My Lord has honoured me."

இன்னும், (அல்லாஹ்) அவனைச் சோதித்து அவனுடைய வாழ்வாதாரங்களை நெருக்கடியாக்கி விட்டால், அப்போது “எனதிரட்சகன் என்னை இழிவுபடுத்திவிட்டான்” என்று அவன்(குறை) கூறுகிறான்.

But when He tries him by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!"

(காரியம்) அவ்வாறன்று! எனினும், நீங்கள் அநாதையை கண்ணியப்படுத்துவதில்லை.

Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)!

ஏழைக்கு நீங்கள் உணவளிக்காததுடன் மற்றெவரையும் உணவளிக்கும்படித் தூண்டுவதுமில்லை.

And urge not one another on the feeding of Al-Miskîn (the poor)!

(பிறருடைய) அனந்தரச் சொத்துக்களையும் சேர்த்து உண்டு வருகிறீர்கள்.

And you devour the inheritance all with greed.

மேலும், நீங்கள் மிக்க அளவு கடந்து செல்வத்தை நேசிக்கிறீர்கள்.

And you love wealth with much love.

(உங்கள் செயல்கள் இவ்வாறிருப்பது சிறந்தது) அல்ல! பூமி தூள் தூளாகத் தகர்க்கப்பட்டுவிடும்போது –

Nay! When the earth is ground to powder.

உமது இரட்சகன், மேலும் - மலக்குகள் அணி அணியாக வரும்போது-

And your Lord comes with the angels in rows.
